Nevada Car Accident Lawyer

Meet Our Team: Daniela Cano

This month Anthem Injury Lawyers interviewed our Communications Specialist, Daniela Cano. We learned a lot about her interaction with clients and her very busy life outside of the office. The transcript of the interview is included below.

Communications Specialist

AIL: What do you do at Anthem Injury Lawyers?

DC: I am a communications specialist. I gather information from our clients on how their accident has affected their life.

AIL: Do you stay in contact with clients throughout the duration of their case?

DC: Yeah, from the very beginning and even throughout their case I follow-up with them. I discuss with them what’s going on with their lives and how their lives have changed from the very beginning and towards the end. I document as much as I can throughout their case.

AIL: What’s your favorite thing about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?

DC: The vibe in this office and the support from the attorneys and the support I get from my teammates. It’s freaking awesome.

AIL: What’s the vibe like?

DC: It’s very positive.

I’ve always compared myself to Tinker Bell because she likes to see how things work and I think that’s what I like the most about here. It’s that we work together and it works like a well-oiled machine.

AIL: What led you to this career?

DC: Many things actually but it began in high school. I had a teacher who was a retired Anaheim police officer. He was very smart and he was honest about the job and I knew I wanted to do something in law but not necessarily a police officer. So, I was thinking something along the lines of working with the district attorney’s office.

But then I took a legal assistant class. It was an entry class and I was interested in that because the class itself was taught by a paralegal. She was older and she had us watch the movie Erin Brockovich. Maybe it was Julia Roberts…I don’t know. I just know that I was hooked. I knew that I wanted to help people and I like to argue. I just thought that’s a career I think I want to pursue.

That character, it just rung with me. It was like the personality that I have and I thought I would do great. And that it would be the best career to help people that actually need it.

AIL: What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?

DC: I guess it’s the trust in the employees that the management has. From the partners to the director to human resources. Just letting us do our job to the best that we can and they just trust us.

It was a little surprising to see how from the start and all the way to closing, how the attorneys and upper management just trust the employees to get the job done. It’s a work of art.

It’s great minds coming together. It’s pretty awesome.

An Empathetic Approach

AIL: What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

DC: I think it’s that the gathering of information of pain and suffering can be done just by picking up the phone and calling the client. I do think that there’s a lot more that goes into these calls. It’s understanding the client. It’s getting to know them. It’s listening.

I was in a bad car accident four years ago. I had an attorney at that point in California. I felt misunderstood a lot of the time during the case.

I don’t want anyone feeling like they’re not being heard. So when I call clients I know what I’m asking. I know the stress, the anxiety, the confusion, the hardships that they’re actually going through. I want them to feel heard and that someone is going to be there to help them.

AIL: It sounds like you got a lot of empathy from your past experience.

DC: Most definitely. I never saw myself being in a car accident and that car accident was so bad. It really affected me. I think it was more emotional and stress than anything. It was more the mental trauma that was left to date. So I know what each of our clients is going through.

AIL: How do you prefer to start your day?

DC: Everyday I start by heating up my teapot on the stove and I take my dogs out to stretch. I enjoy the morning sun and the morning fresh air. I have three German Shepherds. Two of them are rescues. They’re ages three, one, and five months. So I enjoy my mornings with my dogs.

AIL: What are their names?

DC: Oden, Sky, and Clover.

AIL: It sounds like you have a very busy house.

DC: Yes, and that is one thing about me, I am always doing something. I like staying busy.

AIL: What energizes you at work?

DC: Creating something new each day. Whether it’s a template or it’s an outline for training. Or if it’s writing a report on my calls. I just like staying busy.

It’s the Small Things

AIL: What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

DC: Since COVID it’s been difficult. I think, not just for me, but for everyone. Since COVID started, I think I’ve just been very focused on being with family and just trying to live every day to the fullest.

It’s really been about enjoying the small things. So recently, I went to Boulder City for the first time. I enjoyed it. I loved its rustic feeling and its antique shops. I think it’s one of my best memories right now.

AIL: When did you go to Boulder City?

DC: A month ago. My daughter got invited for a bowling birthday party and my husband and I just got to walk around the area. We had wine and it was pretty relaxing. I’ve always been intrigued by the rustic feel of history and it had a lot of that, so I really enjoyed spending time there.

AIL: Do you just have one daughter?

DC: I have two daughters. One is 16 and the other is 11.

AIL: I bet they keep you busy as well.

DC: Yeah, they’re amazing kids. The oldest one, she plays the trumpet. She’s in band. And my 11-year-old, she’s a baseball player. She plays Little League.

AIL: So you have a pretty busy schedule?

DC: Yeah, I like to stay busy. It motivates me. It keeps my endorphins going.

AIL: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?

DC: I would like to say that I unwind by watching sports but I think it’s quite the opposite. It actually winds me up more because I’m competitive.

One of the things that I like to do, that I don’t really share, is I watch anime. I also enjoy watching Bob’s Burgers and The Office…’cuz I’m a little stitious.

AIL: What sports do you like to watch.

DC: Well, I like all sports because I’m competitive. My main three are baseball, basketball, and football. I’m from California, I bleed blue for Dodgers.

As far as basketball, I’ve always liked the underdog. I’ve always been a Clippers fan. For many years, the Lakers have always had this large fan base. But even with all the drama that’s happened with the Clippers I’m still loyal to them.

And…I’m a Cheesehead for the Green Bay Packers. I like green and gold.

AIL: What three words would your friends use to describe you?

DC: I am ambitious. I am bold. I am definitely passionate.

AIL: What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

DC: Digging holes. I like to get my hands dirty. I like to be working in my backyard. I like working with plants. I have the best company running around in my backyard, my dogs. So that’s what I do. I’m out in the backyard, digging holes, planting plants, and watering plants.

I have a small garden. I have two lemon trees. I like to plant flowers, especially right now when spring is happening. Wildflowers are my favorite.
