Once the person scans the QR code and clicks on the link, the scammer is able to upload a virus to the device and steal information from the unsuspecting party. If you receive an unsolicited package and open it, do not click on the QR code, and report it to the carrier who delivered it to you.
Utility Scams: Scammers impersonate utility company representatives, such as those from NV Energy, and contact consumers demanding immediate payment under the threat of service disconnection. These fraudulent calls often appear to originate from the utility company, making them particularly deceptive.
Solar Panel Scams: There has been a significant increase in solar panel-related scams in Nevada. Fraudsters offer enticing deals on solar installations, but after receiving upfront payments, they either perform substandard work or disappear entirely. The Nevada State Contractors Board reported a rise in complaints from 38 in 2021 to 106 in 2022, highlighting the growing concern.
